Russian Training Ship Mir calls into Malaga
The Russian traning ship ship MIR recently stopped off in the port of Malaga in Andalucia on its way Santiago de Compostela in Galicia ( North East Spain ).
The STC MIR is a stunning three-masted
full rigged sailing ship and is registered in St Petersburg , Russia. She is the first of five sister ships and is around 110 metres in length with a beam of some 15 metres. The MIR was was originally built as a cadet training ship, numbering between 70 and 144 cadets. The total transport capacity is 199 people.
Nowadays the Mir also offers commercial sailing trips, daytrips or cruises from port to port, for a modest sum, which offers a unique experience of sailing along on one of the tallest and fastest sailships in the world.
On board on this occassion where pilgrims heading for Santiago de Compostela and some 35 writers and journalists who plan to write about their experiences , to be published in the Autumn.
