The Parador at Cardona must surely be one of the most spectacular of all the Paradors in Spain. It is a stunning 9th century castle located in the beautiful region of Catalonia and sits high above the town of Cardona
This Parador is a unique place to stay in. Panoramic views, romantic four poster bedrooms, lovely suites, unique surroundings and fine dining makes it one of the best in Spain.
The Parador of Cardona is an impressive ninth century fortress which dominates the valley of the river Cardoner. In 986 A.D the rulers declared that the local population would receive salt every Thursday in return for maintaining the fortification at least one day each week.

The Minyona tower was reputedly the prison of the Adeles, the daughter of the Duke of Cardona who was sent there by her own brothers for daring to fall in love with the leader of the Moors and had converted to his religion. She was held in the tower for a year before she died...perhaps of a broken heart.
Travellers can not fail to be truly inspired by staying at this medieval castle, with its grand walls, moats, gothic elements and historic towers. For a romantic getaway or a special family outing, the Parador at Cardona is one of those luxury hotels that is a must stay.

On a clear day it is possible to see the strange serrated hills some fifty kilometres away on which the Monserrat monastery stands. This is also home to one of Europe's most famous boy's choirs.

The Parador Cardona hotel has been cleverly incorporated into the castle . the decoration and medieval furniture is in keeping with the surroundings which has been intelligently mixed in with the modern comforts. The walls are decorated with tapestries and wrought iron torch holders.
