Andratx - A Special place in Mallorca

Andratx is a small, cosy village situated very near Mallorcas south-western tip, about half and hours drive from the islands capital of Palma de Mallorca. The town lies in a bowl-shaped valley, bordered by the tall peaks of the Tramontana Mountain Range. This isolation has allowed Andratx to remain a quiet and charming town, absent of mass tourism and contemporary structures. Indeed, visiting Andratx is like venturing on a journey back in time.

Andratx has long been the summer getaway paradise for a number of internationally fames celebrities. Its remote sense, prime natural beauty and easy access to several scenic hiking routes and in the adjacent mountains make the town a must-see site. Andratx boasts an in-grown Spanish culture, offering the best of Spanish and Catalan cuisine. Sites of particular interest might include the antique Castle of Andratx, the many churches and parishes, and its vibrant contemporary art.


A few minutes further southwest will lead you to the seaside fishing village of Sant Elm, famous for its culinary excellence  some of the best restaurants in the entire island can be found in this small village. Preceding a magnificent dinner might be a trip to the Island of Dragonera, an uninhabited islet (the last people to move out were the operator and his family when the lighthouse finally became automated!) only a stones throw away. Dragonera can be accessed by boat shuttle services from Sant Elm and Port dAndratx, and is perfect for a few hours exploration of some really wild landscape, including jagged peaks, crashing waves and majestic cliffs.
